Our mission is to design contemporary jeans, made to the highest quality and sell them directly to you at exceptional value.

We achieve this by selling directly online, eliminating additional margins created when selling to wholesalers and fashion shops. The saving is then passed on to you.  Had we sold to these middle channels, our jeans would retail for more than double the price they are now, because every channel needs its margins.

We show the traditional retail prices our products would have sold for in fashion shops, on all our product pages.

We source our fabrics from the best denim mills in the world, who produce the highest quality fabrics available on the market. For more information on our fabrics, please check the product section of our FAQ'S or see our home page.

Our buttons and rivets are made from high quality alloy metal, coated in either matt gunmetal or shinny gunmetal plating. Our pocket lining is made from Italian chambray denim and our high grade leather patches are sourced from the finest Italian leather tanneries.

Our jeans are then stitched and washed in one of the most premium denim factory un the industry that has very strict quality control measures. Our highly specialised factory also produces denim for some internationally recognised luxury brands. Each jean produced undergoes 18 different check points before it is cleared and shipped to us. No sacrifices have been made in any part of the brand's production and this is clearly apparent in every aspect of our jeans.

Our promise to you is that ONE will never work with manufacturers and fabric suppliers that do not abide by our strict Code of Conduct. This is also why we source and produce only in the best factories in the world.

We ensure our partners provide a safe, fair and ethical working environment for all the people who are involved in the manufacturing of our clothes. We also ensure we only work with green factories that have a low carbon foot print.

We plan to continually introduce new denims to expand our current range. We also plan to introduce new product categories to complement our core denim offer. Those product categories will follow the same concept as our denim – high quality at exceptional pricing. Sign up to our newsletter to receive regular updates.

Selvedge Denim is so in demand because of its instantly recognisable inseam, which most denim enthusiasts proudly show by rolling up their jeans. Its texture is uneven and irregular which also gives the fabric a unique appearance and a luxury handle. It is the variation and imperfections of the weaving process that lend character to the best selvedge denim and what continue to make it so popular.

Selvedge jeans are made to last and are specifically designed to be lived in. The denim fabric is cut from a bound end of a roll, creating a finished edge on a garment without needing any extra sewing, making a ‘self’ ‘edge’ – hence how the word selvedge was formed.

The edge of the denim is woven tighter compared to non-selvedge and has a far denser weave preventing it from unraveling, therefore creating an overall more sustainable product.

It has been produced since the mid 1800’s when its primary use was for work wear. Manufacturers wanted to create a hardwearing product and Selvedge denim was the answer. Since then, it has evolved into a trend for the fashion conscious that appreciate high quality and fine craftsmanship.

Old-fashioned shuttle looms are used to create selvedge fabrics, which many fabric producers have long abandoned. In the 1950s, due to high demand for jeans, modern machinery replaced these old shuttle looms because they were much faster and more precise. Japan continued to produce using these old shuttle looms and today they are undoubtedly the world leader in selvedge denim production.

The cost of selvedge denim is usually significantly more expensive than non-selvedge denim, because of the slower manufacturing process and the quality of the cotton and dyes used by premium producers. Also, when making a pair of selvedge jeans, the roll of fabric produced by these old shuttle looms is a lot thinner than the rolls of non selvedge denim, making the fabric consumption for a pair of selvedge jeans far greater.

One Denim sources its selvedge fabrics from the best denim mills in the world, mainly located in Japan. For more information on our fabric suppliers, please click here.

Japanese selvedge is what springs to mind when you think of the words luxury and denim. It is arguably the finest; most premium denim in the world and this is why it continues to be so sought after.

The Japanese have gained their reputation as unprecedented world leaders in selvedge production because of their highly skilled labor combined with the use of traditional manufacturing techniques that have long been abandoned elsewhere.

Before Toyota was a successful car manufacturer, it first produced textile looms under the name Toyoda and since the 1920’s; Japan has continued to use these machines to create their selvedge denim.

Although looms have further advanced since then, the most prestigious Japanese mills still continue to use the Toyoda looms. The weaving process on these old style shuttle looms creates inconsistent variations and imperfections in the denim and these characteristics are what excite denim enthusiasts.

Despite this manufacturing process being slower, more labor intensive and more expensive, the jeans produced in this way have a feel and appearance that is second to none.

One Denim sources the majority of its fabrics from Kurabo, Kuroki and Nihon Menpu mills, all of which are located in Okayama, Japan. These mills are considered to be the most premium suppliers of Japanese selvedge denim.

Raw denim is a term that has been exciting denim enthusiasts around the world for the last few years. It refers to any denim that has not undergone a factory wash after the dying process. This should not be confused with Selvedge Denim or Raw Selvedge, as any denim fabric can be raw, but only denim that has been woven in a particular way can be selvedge.

Raw is denim in its purest form and is the term used to describe dark denim that has skipped the factory-washing process. The beauty of raw denim is the ‘breaking in process’, which creates a jean completely unique to you, depending on your daily lifestyle.

It is ideal for those seeking a customized look, as the fading process is natural and authentic. By leaving the fabric in its original state, it is ultimately the wearer that determines the characteristics of their jeans.

However it is not for everyone, as it requires time, care and patience to have the satisfying end result. You should take in to consideration that because it is un-washed, there is still excessive indigo dye in the fabric, making it prone to rubbing off onto clothing and upholstery. You must also refrain from washing your jeans for at least 6 months, as this will disrupt the natural fading process.

The appeal of having your jeans gradually fade creating natural markings on their own is what makes owning a pair of raw jeans so desirable. When you first try on your raw jeans, they will feel stiffer compared to regular factory washed jeans, but after just a few wears, your jeans will soften considerably.

Each crease and fade is individual to the person wearing it. The amount of time you spend in your jeans and your lifestyle all contribute to how your jeans will look. No two pairs of raw denim will ever look the same. Your raw denim is completely unique to you.

All the Raw denims on the One Denim website are Raw Selvedge which makes them one the highest quality raw denims on the market.

Raw denim is unwashed and has never been exposed to water. Once washed or rinse washed denim has undergone a light factory wash process to help eliminate shrinkage, bleeding, moreover it softens the feel of the fabric. Both are usually similar in appearance and pre-washed denims will also fade and mark overtime, but not as much as raw denim will.

Although old habits may have you itching to wash your denims after a few wears... Don’t! All jeans should not be washed regularly.

Caring for your RAW.

Denim enthusiasts look upon raw denim as a “blank slate” for each individual to wear in and make their own. Wearing your raw jeans without washing for at least 6 months creates an end result of natural whiskering and fading that is entirely unique to you.

There are various ways of caring for your jeans without putting them in contact with water. Freezing your jeans is a sufficient way to kill odours or bacteria. Fold your jeans into the drawstring bag they came packaged in and leave them in your freezer overnight. If your jeans have a small stain but you are not ready to completely wash, then simply gently rub with a damp cloth until the stain is removed.

It is important to note that care must be taken when wearing your raw jeans as the dye can rub off onto upholstery and clothing, especially before they have been exposed to water. Caution should also be taken when washing your raw jeans with items of a lighter colour as this can also result in the transferal of the indigo dye.

For best results, we recommend you hand wash your jeans in cold water. If you decided to machine wash, do so inside out on a cold cycle at a low spin.

Do not tumble dry or place your jeans on a radiator. Leave them out to dry naturally and iron inside out.

The key point to remember is the more you wash, the more your jeans will fade un-naturally.

Caring for your Factory-Washed Jeans

Although factory washed jeans do not require the same amount of attention as raw jeans, it is still important to follow the same wash steps in order to maintain the overall appearance and longevity of your jeans.

Factory-washed jeans won’t be affected as much as raw jeans from water exposure, however they will still fade through continuous washing. Therefore you should refrain from washing on a regular basis.

Hand wash your jeans in cold water. If you prefer to machine wash, do so on a cold cycle at a low spin, leave them to dry naturally and iron inside out. Do not tumble dry or place on a radiator as this this can further fade the denim.
